L’Ashwagandha (Lat. Withania somnifera) est une plante provenant d’Inde. Elle fait partie des herbes les plus importantes de l’Ayurveda (médecine traditionnelle indienne). En sanskrit, son nom signifie « fort comme le cheval » : il est censé promouvoir la vitalité et la force du cheval.On dit aussi que l’Ashwagandha (ou cerise d’hiver) réduit le stress et favorise la relaxation.
L’Ashwagandha est à juste titre appelée le ginseng indien, en comparaison aux propriétés du ginseng, qui a lui aussi la capacité de donner beaucoup d’énergie et de vitalité. Elle est dite « rasayana », autrement dit « qui régénère et rajeunit » avec ses vertus revitalisantes et fortifiantes. Souvent prise en cure, cette plante a traditionnellement été utilisée contre un grand nombre de pathologies et très souvent pour renforcer le système immunitaire.
